Mingyang Shines at Osaka Expo: Promoting International Cooperation for Offshore Wind Power Future

Date: 2025.05.12
On May 8th, the “2025 Urban New Energy Forum” was successfully held during the Beijing Activity Week at the China Pavilion of the Osaka Expo. Mingyang Smart Energy, the only Chinese wind power company present, showcased its innovative technologies and called for deeper international cooperation in offshore wind power. The event, hosted by Beijing’s Changping District, saw energy experts from China and Japan discuss “Green Intelligent Energy, Safe and Sustainable Future.”
Global Outlook on Offshore Wind Power
Amid the global shift towards green and low-carbon energy, offshore wind power is a vital driver for both energy transformation and economic growth. The Global Wind Energy Council forecasts that between 2025 and 2030, the world will add 156 GW of offshore wind capacity, with 63% in the Asia-Pacific region and China accounting for 81% of that. Liu Lianyu, President of Business Line at Mingyang, highlighted China’s role in driving down global wind power costs by over 60% over a decade, thanks to its robust supply chain and advanced technology. He emphasized that international cooperation is key to future growth.
Take Japan, the host of this Expo, as an example. With its location surrounded by the sea, Japan has great potential for offshore wind power development. The Japanese government plans to reach a cumulative offshore wind power capacity of 10 GW by 2030 and 30 to 45 GW by 2040. However, research by the Global Wind Energy Council shows that since 2024, Japan has faced supply bottlenecks for key components such as nacelles, gearboxes, generators, and blades for offshore wind turbines. China and Japan, being close neighbors, have broad cooperation prospects in the offshore wind power sector. In October 2023, the offshore wind turbines provided by Mingyang for the Nyuzen offshore wind power project in Japan passed the acceptance inspection smoothly, marking the first entry of Chinese offshore wind turbines into the Japanese market. Mingyang's world-leading offshore wind turbine anti-typhoon technology and China's complete wind power supply chain system were key factors in this Sino-Japanese cooperation.
Expanding Global Cooperation through Technological Innovation
As a global leading wind turbine manufacturer and a provider of comprehensive clean energy solutions, Mingyang integrates global resource elements and continues to lead the development of offshore wind power technology and global market cooperation. In terms of wind turbine upsizing, Mingyang has launched the world-leading MySE22MW+ offshore wind power product platform and achieved grid connection for the MySE18.X-20MW ultra-large single-unit capacity offshore wind turbine. In anti-typhoon capabilities, relying on its experience with over 2,600 anti-typhoon units in operation, Mingyang has become the “number one brand” in global wind power anti-typhoon technology. In floating offshore wind power technology for deep-sea areas, Mingyang has taken the lead in commissioning the world's first 5.5-megawatt anti-typhoon floating wind turbine, the first “double hundred” floating wind turbine in China with a single-unit capacity of 7.25 megawatts, and independently developed and commissioned the world's largest single-unit capacity dual-rotor floating wind turbine, the OceanX.
“Looking ahead, Mingyang will continue to build core competitiveness through technological, model and scenario innovation to drive the development of global offshore wind power. We are also willing to join hands with global partners to contribute to addressing the climate crisis,” Liu Lianyu said.
