Ming Yang Smart Energy and Octopus Energy Forge Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Affordable UK Renewable Power

Date: 2025.09.11
Building on the first UK-China Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) in seven years, Ming Yang Smart Energy and UK-leading energy-tech company Octopus Energy have signed a landmark strategic-cooperation agreement—flagship teamwork in the Sino-British new-energy space. The two sides will marry Ming Yang’s world-class on- & offshore wind technology with Octopus’ strength in digital energy and power-market operations to speed up UK onshore-wind build-out. Through Octopus’ “Winder” renewable-resource platform, up to 6 GW of local wind capacity is slated for development, materially cutting electricity bills for British homes and businesses.

Under the pact, Octopus will deploy advanced software that integrates with Ming Yang’s market-leading turbines to deliver top-tier data protection and cyber-security. Octopus Energy Generation—the group’s renewables arm—intends to install Ming Yang onshore machines, unlocking Winder’s theoretical 6 GW pipeline. Initial work centres on onshore wind, with solar and battery-storage solutions to follow.

“Ming Yang and Octopus share a strong commitment to making clean energy affordable, reliable, and accessible,” said Zhang Chao, Board Director & Senior Vice-President of Ming Yang Smart Energy. “As a global leader in wind technology, Ming Yang is committed to accelerating the energy transition through innovation and community-focused solutions. This partnership marks an exciting step forward in delivering safe, efficient renewable energy to local communities across the UK”.

Octopus Energy CEO Zoisa North-Bond added, “The UK is already a leader in wind, and this partnership with Ming Yang is a core pathway to deliver some of the cheapest and most secure energy the UK has seen. By combining Octopus’s expertise in smart technology and software with outstanding wind turbines, we can optimise every kilowatt and cut energy costs for millions of bill payers.”

Founded in 2015, Octopus Energy is the world’s fastest-growing energy company and Europe’s largest investor in wind power, managing almost 5 GW of renewables globally, including 1.5 GW of onshore and offshore wind.
